This win places Richard at the top of his round robin group. His next match will be against Frank Dancevic.

After the match, Richard commented,

"It was a good match, it was difficult for me because it was the first of the year. I wanted to win this first match and be number one in this round robin [group]. [Mayer] is a great player, I lost to him at the Australian Open three years ago, so it was a good match for me today."
