Order of Play: Wednesday, Gasquet vs. Nalbandian. third on Philippe Chatrier court (play starts at 11.00am CET)
The Frenchman, who is trying to rediscover his form after injury problems was never troubled throughout the match and hit 48 winners, including 12 aces on his way to victory in the match which lasted just shy of two hours.
Richard had a great start to the match, breaking his Wang's serve after 15 minutes for a 3-2 lead. He had more chances to break in the set, but ended up serving it out comfortably at 5-4.
The second set was a very one-sided affair. Richard broke his opponent three times on his way to taking a commanding two set lead.
Wang worked hard in the third set and made life difficult for Richard. The Frenchman did secure an early break, but Wang broke back immediately and pushed Richard hard in the third set. But Richard took his opportunities when they came along, and at 6-5 with Wang serving he found himself at match point, 30-40. Richard did not need a second chance and won the point and the match.
Next up for Richard is a very difficult match against Argentina's David Nalbandian. The number three seed came through his first round match in three straight sets as well, and is one of the favourites for the title in Paris. Richard will be looking to finally get a win against the man he has lost to three times before and with the youngster finding his form it is sure to be an exciting match.
