Richard had the worst summer of his career.

Richard did not play on clay during the summer as originally envisaged. He retired from Bastad and Hamburg. He lost in Montreal and Cincinnati against Alexander Zverev and Rafael Nadal, twice in the second round. He suffered a defeat in the first round of the US Open against Leonardo Mayer: 6-4 2-6 4-6 2-6.

Davis Cup is on next, but it is not yet known if Richard will be part of the team.
