Richard took his revenge. After he had lost a tight battle against Vasek Pospisil last Saturday in Washington, he defeated the Canadian in front of his home crowd 7-5 7-5 in the first round of Toronto. His next opponent is the winner of Tomic/Karlovic.
It was a strange first set, Richard with hardly any winners, but hardly any errors either. It was the Canadian who scored both of them. When Pospisil was serving to stay in the set, he took a medical time out. Not a good choice, Richard sealed the first set 7-5.
Richard managed to break the Canadian in the 4th game of the second set, but lost his advantage. At 6-5 Pospisil had to serve to stay in the match and he collapsed. His first double fault of the match gave Richard an important 7-5 7-5 victory.
