After a first round bye, Richard defeated Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-1 6-3 and will play his compatriot Albano Olivetti in the quarterfinals.
It was a poor start: 2 double faults and three breakpoints against Richard, but he saved them all and won a long first game. The second was not much shorter, but Richard did better than Mathieu and used his break point chances to get 2-0 up. The following games were a copy of the first two. Again, Mathieu wasted his chances and Richard did not. By this time, Mathieu was already beaten.Richard won the first set 6-1, broke right of the start of the second and also at the end of the set for a 6-1 6-3 victory.
