A very convincing Richard beat Sergej Stakhovsky 6-1 6-4 6-3 and will play the winner of Williams/Przysienzny in the second round.
Richard broke the Ukrainian in his first service game and never looked back. A further break allowed him to take the set 6-1. In the second set, Richard broke in the fifth game, enough to win the set 6-4.Again two breaks up in the final set, Richard allowed one rebreak, but broke Stakhovsky straight away for a comfortable victory. Richard had twice as many winners as unforced errors and 27 net approaches out of which he won 77%.
