Richard had to face another upcoming player in the 3rd round of Indian Wells. But Jerzy Janowicz was not in his form of Bercy 2012 (finalist) and Richard scored a convincing 6-1 6-4 victory. His next opponent will be Tomas Berdych.
The first set went like a storm. Janowicz could not rely on his major weapon, the first serve, and Richard was far too solid for the Pole. Result: 6-1 in roughly 20 minutes.
The second set was more balanced, Richard had to fend off breakpoints in his early service games, but over all, the outcome was never in doubt. After Richard broke in the 7th game, he confidently sailed to victory.
Occasionally Richard seemed to have problems with his right ankle, but as he played (and lost) his doubles match immediately therafter, there is hope, that the problem can't be too big.
