Richard had a first round bye and defeated his compatriote Gael Monfils 6-3 2-6 6-3. His next opponent is the winner of Benneteau/Hanescu.

Monfils started poorly and a solid Richard was good enough to win the first set 6-3. In the second set, Gael served very well, while Richard's serve declined and his game with it. Result: 2-6.

But Richard stayed tough, kept attacking and made Monfils doubting. He was able to get a two breaks advantage, lost one of the breaks, but immediatly broke back for victory.
