Richard's stay in Bejing was short. He lost in the second round to the Chinese wild card Ze Zhang. His next tournament is Shanghai.
Tennis players' lives can be quite demanding. After winning Bangkok, Richard had to travel more than 3000 km to Bejing to face Matthew Ebden. He seemed to have managed the surface change well and defeated the Australian 6-2 6-4.But against Ze Zhang he did not look as aggressive as he was in Bangkok. He lost a tight battle to the homeboy 4-6 6-3 4-6.
Richard had also entered the doubles, but an injury from his partner Julien Benneteau forced the pair to retire.
