Richard defeated the Belgian qualifier Ruben Bemelmans 6-3 6-4 6-4. His third round opponent will be Nicolas Almagro.
Richard broke in the fourth game of the first set and was never in danger in his own service games. He took the set 6-3. After breaking the Belgian right at the start of the second set, some concentration problems allowed Bemelmans to rebreak for 3 all.But he could not hold his advantage, Richard went up again a break and this time he hold on to his lead, winning the set 6-4. A similar situation occured in the third set. Again Bemelmans managed to came back from a break and again Richard rebroke straight away. There was no return for the Belgian.
As the match had started very late due to rain delays, it was very important for Richard to finish the match today, which he did in style with an ace.
