Richard gave a good account of himself, but lost 5-7 3-6 to World Number 1 Novak Djokovic in Miami. As he was not selected for the French Davis Cup team, his next tournament will be Monte Carlo, starting on 16 April 2012.
It was an agrressive and daring Richard who achieved the first break in this match, but the world Number 1 came back quickly. Richard had further numerous breakpoints to take the upper hand in the first set, but they were all erased by the Serb. In the end, one break sufficed for Djokovic to win 7-5.
Slightly discouraged by that close loss, Richard played one weak service game which decided the outcome of this match.
It was a defeat, but with the clay sesaon ahead, Richard is definitely on a good path.
