As the new French number one in tennis, Richard Gasquet is ready to embrace the opportunity to represent his country in their Davis Cup quarterfinal against Russia later this month.
Coming off a stunning grass court month in England, which saw Richard claim his first title at Nottingham, reach the quarterfinals of the Stella Artois Championships, and reach the fourth round at Wimbledon, Richard is eager to make his debut for France in the Davis Cup.
With Grosjean withdrawing from the tie due to fatigue, Richard is likely to lead France in their assault on Russia. The tie will be played in Moscow, Russia, 15th - 17th July. The Russians have favoured an indoor clay court. This will not daunt Richard though, who has proved his ability on clay, after defeating the world number one, Roger Federer on the surface earlier this year.
On the possiblity of playing Davis Cup, Richard commented that he has made himself available for selection to the French captain Guy Forget, and that "it would be a dream" to play.
