Richard reached the quarterfinals in Montpellier by defeating Nikolaj Davydenko 6-3 6-4.
Montpellier is Richard's "home-tourney". The city is the capital of Languedoc-Roussillon, the region in the south of France, where Richard was born, grew up and to which he is still very much attached.
After a first round-bye, Richard scored a convincing 6-3 6-4 victory against the Russian veteran Nikolaj Davydenko. He did not face a single breakpoint and hit 10 aces.
His next opponent is the German Philipp Kohlschreiber.
