Today, Richard Gasquet won his first title, at Nottingham. He defeated Max Mirnyi 6-2, 6-3. Gasquet's winning shots were clearly his scintillating backhand, and his very high first serve percentage. The net and luck were also on Richard's side, on a very hot day in the English midlands...

Richard was delighted to win and commented that winning on his birthday made it even more special.

After the match, Richard said, "It is great for me to prove I can play on the surface and now I believe I can go a long way at Wimbledon next week."

Max Mirnyi was a very sporting competitor, and during the trohpy presentation, he lead the crowd in a rendition of 'Happy Birthday' for Richard. The 10tele.com Open also presented Richard with a birthday cake.
