Richard needed little more than an hour to defeat his compatriot Mikael Llodra in the second round of Indian Wells 6-4 6-0.
Richard started perfectly with a firing backhand to break Llodra already in his first service game. After 13 minutes Richard was 4-0 up. Though he had to give back one of the breaks, he took the set comfortably 6-4 with two aces.
The second set was even clearer. Richard broke again right at the start, and when he managed to win a long game for 2-0, playing great on breakpoints, the match was more or less over. Llodra had nothing to add and though Richard's service percentage went down considerably in the second set, he managed to bagel Llodra.
Richard's next opponent is the winner of Bellucci/Verdasco.
