Richard lost his third round match in Madrid to Rafael Nadal 4-6 2-6.

Broken at the start of the match, Richard never really found his game. He remained aggressive, though and applied an offensive approach. But there were too many errors which cost him the match.

His next tournament is Lyon where he is seeded no 2 and will meet a qualifier in the first round.
