Richard will now wrap up his season in France, with Lyon next week and then the Masters in Paris.
He faces a tough start in Lyon. Despite being seeded fourth, Richard has a testing opening round against the in-form Marat Safin.
Undoubtedly the pick of the first rounds, this is sure to be a terrific battle. Safin has found some form in the last two weeks, reaching the final of Moscow and the quarters of Madrid. The Russian holds a 3-0 record over Richard, their last match being the five set thriller in Davis Cup earlier this year.
