It took Richard just 1hr 9m to see off the challenge of Fabrice Santoro in the first round of the Rogers Cup. He won 6-4, 6-3 to progress past his countryman.
Richard clocked up some impressive stats on his way to victory, his first serve percentage was nearly at 60% and he backed that up by winning 82% of them. Santoro's second serve let him down today as he only won 35% of points on his second serve, a fact which certainly helped Richard out.
For his sins, Richard will likely have to face James Blake in the second round. The number one American will play his first match tonight against Philip Bester and is the hot favourite to come through.
