Richard's series of never losing a Grand Slam quarter was stopped by Roger Federer who imposed himself 6-3 6-3 6-1. Richard's next scheduled tournament is Kuala Lumpur.
Federer set the tone right at the start, serving ace after ace in his first service games, he put enormous pressure on Richard's own service games. Richard had to concede a break at 3-2* and the Swiss never looked back.In the second set, Richard tried to hang in but with a poor serve percentage of his own and Federer continuing in his vein, there was not much he could do. Richard never found his game and lost the set 3-6. Federer showed no mercy and with an overall first serve percentage of 76 - by far his highest during this US Open - Richard had to accept defeat: 3-6 3-6 1-6.
