Richard lost his first round match in Toronto against Sergey Stakhovsky 5-7 1-6.
Broken in his first game, Richard managed to come back for 2 all in the first set. He needed eight breakpoints to do so. Things went on serve, but at 5 all, the Ukrainian scored the decisive break to take the set 7-5.Richard's first service game went smoothly, but that was it. He conceded the match without much further resistance 5-7 1-6.
It seems as if the injury which forced him to withdraw in Washington still bothered him. His serve was not penetrating (only one ace) and the smashes - normally absolute point winners - were not decisive either
He is scheduled to play Cincinnati next week, where he needs four withdrawals to enter directly or to go through qualifying. However, a break to recover full health might seem very approporiate.
