 | Richard Through To First Masters Series Final |
lucyflory a écrit : "Richard Gasquet has stormed through to his first ever Masters Series final, with his 6-1, 6-1 victory over Christophe Rochus at Hamburg...
Richard dominated the match, with many sensational backhand winners. Taking control immediately Richard raced to a 2-0 lead with Rochus winning just one point. At 3-0, Gasquet extended his lead to a 0-40 advantage with a smash and a backhand cross court winner. It was not until his fourth break point though that Richard managed to convert the double break, as Rochus hit his backhand into the net.
Gasquet and Rochus then exchanged breaks but at 5-1 Gasquet went to serve for the set. He had to save two break points which he did with a huge serve and an error from Rochus. On his first set point though, Richard did not falter, as he hit a very delicate drop shot to take the set 6-1.
The second set started much the same way as the first with Richard taking an early break. After more errors from Rochus, Richard broke again to take a 4-1 lead. As he was at a comfortable stance in the match, Richard started going for more adventurous and artistic shots, indeed, missing a hot-dog shot by inches.
Rochus came out to serve to stay in the match at 5-1 down. A superb backhand down the line by Richard in the first point clearly showed Gasquet's intentions. At 15-40 and facing his first match point, Gasquet did not disappoint with yet another outstanding backhand pass.
Gasquet, watched by Boris Becker and Fabrice Santoro, was clearly delighted and waved to the crowd after the match. Tomorrow he will face the world number one, Roger Federer in the final. In their only previous meeting, Richard won in the Monte Carlo quarterfinals.
Good luck Richard! "
