Richard suffered a tough loss in the second round of the Medibank International, falling to Dmitry Tursunov 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Playing first on Centre Court in Sydney, there was just one break in each set, with Tursunov claiming the key break in the third set to seal victory in two hours and three minutes.
Afterwards Richard said: "It was my first tournament. The tournament is strong. You have to play big guy in the first round and big guy in the second, so I tried my best. I'm feeling good, but sometimes you have to play against strong guys like today."
It's now on to Melbourne and the Australian Open for Richard. The first Grand Slam of the year gets underway on Monday. Stay tuned for all the latest Down Under.
