| Nalbandian survives Gasquet |
Third seed David Nalbandian survived a tough examination of his French Open credentials on Wednesday when he beat home favourite Richard Gasquet 6-2 3-6 7-5 6-0 to reach the third round.
A shock looked possible when Gasquet took the second set thanks to a succession of huge backhand winners.
Argentine Nalbandian, a semi-finalist at Roland Garros in 2004, claimed the first set before Gasquet lifted the crowd by levelling.
The 19-year-old Gasquet missed chances to go 4-3 up in the third before Nalbandian broke to win the set and then ripped through the fourth.
