Gasquet's run at Metz came to an end today as he was beaten by close friend, Gael Monfils 7-6(3), 6-2.
Richard was a break up in the first set, but was unable to keep up the momentum, as Monfils broke back and then sneaked the first set on a tie break.
Monfils went on to dominate the match further in the second set. To the delight of the French crowd, they definitely have a Frenchman in the semi finals.
In the interview after the match, Richard commented, “I first want to congratulate Gael because he played a great match. I had my chances in the first set, unfortunately I couldn't take advantage of them. “
“I know that I can't play 100%, my elbow is hurting me and my priority at the moment is to get rid of this pain.”
After not playing since the US Open, this was a good comeback tournament for Richard.
Richard's next tournament is scheduled to be next week at the if...Stockholm Open in Stockholm, Sweden.
