At the start, it looked good, Richard had four breakpoints in the fourth game, but the Spaniard saved them all. Things looked still good when Richard had another four breakpoints at 5-4*, but again, he could not benefit. The set went to a breaker, in which Verdasco raced to a 4-0 lead, Richard came back to 5 all, but lost it 7-5.The second set was a one-sided affair, Richard tried to vary his game more than earlier on, but Verdasco was confident, had all the answers and won the match 7-5 6-1.
