| A Step Closer to the Title Defense |
Richard kept his chances alive for a title defense in Montpellier. He beat Jerzy Janowicz 7-6 7-6 and will play Gael Monfils in the final.
Both players were untouchable in their service games up to 5 all, with the Pole hitting regulary 1st services of 220 km/h and more. A bad game from Richard gave Janowicz the first break, but he lost his mind when serving for the set and Richard could come back. Very concentrated and alert, Richard took the breaker 8-6.
He had breakpoints in Janowicz's first service game of the second set, but could not convert them. While Richard hold his service with more ease than the Pole, the second set also went to a breaker which Richard took 7-4 due to some glorious forehand passes.
