Clement and Llodra have given the French team a vital victory in the doubles today, in the Davis Cup quarterfinal tie against Russia. The French pairing beat Youzhny and Andreev in four sets, to give France a 2-1 lead going into the final play on Sunday.
This gives Richard Gasquet, who is first up on Sunday against Davydenko, a chance to put France into the semifinals. The two have played just once before. Their meeting was on clay at Monte Carlo earlier this year, where Richard won in three tight sets. Richard will be able to draw confidence from this victory in his match on Sunday.
The winner of this tie, will face the winners of Croatia and Romania, who are currently tied at one rubber a piece.
