Richard and Julien Benneteau won the bronze medals at the London Olympics. They beat Lopez/Ferrer 7-6 6-2.
Richard and Julien had the better start, having a break point in the fourth game of the first set. But they could not convert. The match went on with the servers, Lopez and Benneteau better on serve, Richard and Ferrer with advantages as returners. In the 11th game, the French team had to face two breakpoints, but they stayed strong to prove their slight advantage in the breaker, with Richard hittiing an incredible backhand to seal it.
With the first set in the pocket, things became easier, Ferrer struggled on serve and he was broken in the third game of the second set. The match was decided when Lopez was also broken for 4-1. Richard and Julien had already a match point on Ferrer's serve at 1*-5, but the Spaniards escaped. Julien showed no hesitation to serve out for a convincing 7-6 6-2 victory and the bronze medal.
