| Monte Carlo - Gasquet books Berdych clash |
Richard Gasquet reached the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters with a hard-fought win over Spanish qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver.
The Frenchman, a former semi-finalist in the event who needed a wild card to make the main draw, came out on top 6-2 4-6 6-2 on Court Central.
The former world number seven had to overcome blustery conditions as well as his opponent, with Gimeno-Traver responding well after losing the first set.
However Gasquet came through strongly in the decider to win after two hours and seven minutes on court, improving his record in 2010 to 10-8.
Next up for the 23-year-old will by the in-form Tomas Berdych, who comfortably saw off the challenge of Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 6-3 6-1.
