Richard lost his second round match in Acapulco to Nicolas Almagro 6-3 5-7 6-7 (7)
The first set was a festival. Richard confused Almagro with his variation and some unorthodox clay-court tennis to take the set 6-3. In the second set, Richard had to save a breakpoint in the first service-game, but the rest was convincing. Some stupid errors forced him to concede the set 5-7. Strangely enough it was Almagro who collapsed then, and Richard did not have to do much to get up 4-0. Was it a loss of concentration or fatigue which allowed a recovering Almagro back into the match? The set went to a breaker which Richard finally lost 7-9 saving 5 matchpoints.
His next scheduled tournament is Indian Wells.
