Rafael Nadal defeated Richard in the quarterfinals of Toronto 6-7 6-2 6-1.
After two breaks each in the first set, a tiebreak had to decide. Richard secured the first set, winning the breaker 14-12. The quality of tennis has been great throughout the set, in the breaker it was phantastic.
Richard missed three break points at 1-1 in the second set and his game went down from there. Nadal even further improving, while Richard declining made for a tough scoreline 6-2 6-1. Occasional blasting winners could not change the general pattern.
Richard's next tournament is Cincinnati, where he will meet -- Michael Llodra again in the first round.
