Richard's Hamburg campaign came to an early end on Tuesday as he fell second round to Italian Andreas Seppi.
Richard is a former finalist in Hamburg, having finished runner-up to Roger Federer three years ago, and would have hoped to reignite his season here, having suffered with poor singles results in recent weeks.
Unfortunately, Richard could not find his best tennis as the pair took to the court as the last match of the day at the Rothenbaum. It was Seppi who was able to take his chances and he broke serve on four occasions to wrap up the 6-3, 6-2 victory.
In a last bid to find his best form before the French Open, Richard will next compete in Casablanca at the Grand Prix Hassan II alongside compatriots Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Nicolas Mahut and Gael Monfils.
